Sancerre wine has been renowned since centuries because the terroir of this appellation perfectly complements the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grape varieties, resulting in dry, aromatic, and mineral Sancerre white wines that pair beautifully with fish and Crottin de Chavignol cheese, as well as fruity Sancerre red wines with silky tannins. The hillside vineyards of the Sancerre AOC overlook the Cher River and include among its leading winemakers the Alphonse Mellot and Henri Bourgeois estates.
