The Alliance of Two Terroirs
The name CARO is a contraction of two legendary families:
-
THATtena: The Argentine family that pioneered high-altitude Malbec.
-
ROThschild: The owners of the famous Château Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux.
The idea was born in 1999 with a simple but bold ambition: to produce a wine that combines Argentine identity (Malbec) and French elegance (Cabernet Sauvignon).
Style and Grape Varieties
The vineyard is distinguished by its "haute couture" approach to winemaking. The wines are aged in barrels made at the cooperage itself. Château Lafite, providing exceptional grain fineness.
-
Malbec: It brings the fruitiness, roundness and typical indulgence of Mendoza.
-
Cabernet Sauvignon: Provides structure, acidity and aging potential.
The Flagship Wines
-
CARO: The great wine, a balanced blend that expresses complexity and refinement.
-
Little Caro: A more accessible wine, focusing on fruit and freshness.
-
Aruma: A 100% Malbec that captures the pure essence of the high-altitude terroir.
A Historic Site
Unlike many modern wineries in Mendoza, Bodegas Caro is located in a restored historic cellar at Godoy Cruz. This late 19th century building, with its brick vaults and hushed atmosphere, serves as a setting for aging wines.
Did you know that? The grapes come from carefully selected plots, mainly in Altamira, in the Uco Valley, where the soils are rich in limestone, giving the wines a unique minerality.
