Barsac boasts several Grands Crus Classés from 1855. This appellation is close to Sauternes , both geographically and in terms of the wines produced, which benefit from a unique microclimate. Indeed, Barsac lies at the confluence of cold and warm waters, creating morning fog. As this area also enjoys ample sunshine in the afternoon, it is ideal for the development of the renowned noble rot, which allows for the production of great sweet wines . Furthermore, all wines from the Barsac AOC can also be labeled as Sauternes.

Château Coutet

The castle building dates back to the 13th century and is distinguished by several architectural features: a square tower, a chapel, and a paved courtyard, all of which contribute to its charm. A wine estate since the mid-17th century, Château Coutet was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855. This fortress once belonged to the renowned Lur-Saluces family and housed the stables of Château d'Yquem . Today, under the stewardship of the Baly family and Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, an excellent Sauternes is produced here using sustainable farming practices.

Château Coutet wines are characterized in their early years by aromas of white flowers, citrus, and honey. As they age, they develop warm notes of candied fruit and spices. They pair beautifully with seafood or sweet and savory dishes, such as seafood carpaccio with exotic fruits or sweet potato and fresh goat cheese gougères.

Climens Castle

The first written records of Château Climens date back to the mid-16th century. It has changed hands only a few times throughout its history, and all its owners have taken great care of the estate, aware of its value and potential. The Château was classified as a Premier Cru in 1855. It was acquired by the Lurton family in the 1970s and has been managed by Bérénice Lurton since 1992.

Château Climens is distinguished by the breadth of its aromatic profile . In its youth, the wine displays notes of citrus and white flowers, often with a touch of freshness (eucalyptus, mint), echoing its rather pale color. As it ages, it develops aromas of sweet spices and fruit, with increasingly candied flavors as the wine matures. It pairs particularly well with blue cheeses, as well as with exotic cuisine, especially Asian.

Château Climens is worth remembering for several reasons. First, its wines consistently demonstrate remarkable elegance and quality . Second, these wines are characterized by their excellent aging potential , capable of maturing for decades while retaining their delicate aromas.

Château Doisy-Daene

Château Doisy-Daëne has belonged to the Dubourdieu family since 1924, who have worked there for three generations. They cultivate Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes to produce Sauternes and the Grand Vin Sec du Château Doisy-Daëne , a very distinctive dry white wine. In exceptional vintages, they also produce the Château's prestige cuvée: L'Extravagant .

The vineyard is cultivated using biodynamic methods : traditional soil tilling, no herbicides, and a process of phasing out pesticides is underway. Vine care, including bud removal, trellising, and leaf thinning, is done entirely by hand. The vines, some over 40 years old, thus produce concentrated and flavorful grapes.

This Château was classified as a Second Growth in 1855. It is characterized by concentrated fruit aromas and a beautiful balance between delicacy and vibrancy , power and freshness . It pairs very well with white meats or fish in sauce.
