History of the Estate Domaine Michelot

the story of Domaine Michelot

The land of Burgundy

The origin of wine

The familyMichelothas owned this estate for six generations. It isBernard
Michelotwho really made this field grow from the 1960s onwards, by infusing it with his personality.

Today, the estate's Burgundy vineyards cover 19 hectares located onPuligny-MontrachetAndMeursault, and offers many Premier Cru wines, including the “Meursault
1er Cru Charmes,Genevrières,Perrières,PorruzotAndLike”.

The vines are cultivated from Chardonnay, with a small amount of Pinot Noir. Part of each plot is grassed and managed through regular mowing. This method causes water stress to the vines, forcing their roots to grow deeper into the soil. The ultimate goal is to limit the use of pesticides and accentuate the characteristics of the terroir. These are the choices made by the family.Michelotallow the wine to have a simply incredible aromatic richness.

To enhance the Burgundy terroir

A 19-hectare vineyard

It is in the heart of theBurgundy, very close toBeaunethat we find the domainMichelotPresent on the legendary appellations ofPuligny-MontrachetAndMeursaultThe vineyard currently comprises 19 hectares of vines. These two appellations give the wine a strong personality and a high reputation.

This vineyard comprises several terroirs, each with a different slope. This diversity allows for a wide range of wines produced by the estate. The vines are cultivated according to traditional and environmentally friendly principles. The aim is to preserve the natural balance of the wine, intervening as little as possible during vinification, all in order to obtain a wine that truly reflects the terroir.

Burgundy's know-how

Seventeen Burgundy wines

The domainMichelotThey practice manual harvesting. They minimize the use of pesticides and focus on sustainable farming practices with frequent tilling. They have also chosen to remain outside of any certified system in order to maintain a degree of independence. This choice allows them to encourage the vines to protect themselves and naturally stimulate their self-defense mechanisms.

The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted directly in the vineyard. The wines are then aged for 10 to 12 months in barrels. After racking, they are blended for 5 to 6 months directly in tanks, the aim being to achieve excellent consistency for each cuvée. The total aging period is therefore 16 to 18 months. The reds, which cover 2 hectares, are planted entirely with Pinot Noir. The whites, spread over 17 hectares, are planted entirely with Chardonnay.
