Grands Vins Italiens offert par la Place de Bordeaux

Fine Italian Wines offered by the Place de Bordeaux

Every year in September, the Place de Bordeaux — the oldest and most powerful wine trading system in the world — orchestrates a major event on the international wine calendar: the release of the so-called " Outside Bordeaux "While this historical network was shaped by the great classified growths of the Médoc and Libourne regions, Italy now occupies a prominent place within it.

The emergence of the Dolce Vita on the Place de Bordeaux

Historically reserved for the châteaux of the Bordeaux vineyards, the Place de Bordeaux opened its doors to global icons in the mid-2000s, initiated by pioneers such as Almaviva (Chile) and Opus One (California). The major Italian estates quickly followed suit, finding in Bordeaux a unique global distribution network, capable of reaching collectors and dealers in more than 100 countries within a few hours.

The September window has thus become the unmissable annual event for exceptional allocations from Italy. Other Italian estates will present their wines in March of next year.

Transalpine icons in the spotlight

Among the flagship wines relaunched on the market each autumn, Tuscany leads the way:

  • The historic Super Tuscans: Legendary vintages such as Solaia (Domaine Antinori), Masseto And Ornellaia They embody the success of this distribution method. Their Bordeaux-inspired blends or their pure expressions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon find a natural echo with the network of Gironde wine merchants.
  • Tuscan gems: Visionary properties such as Petrolo (with its exceptional vintage) Galatrona) Or Tenuta Sette Ponti  (with its vintages) Oreno And Sette) entrust their precious bottles to Bordeaux wine merchants to establish their international prestige.
  • Brunello's tradition: The great terroirs of Tuscany also stand out. Exceptional vintages of Brunello di Montalcino (like those from...) Poggio Antico et Podere Giodo) are taking advantage of this channel to expand their presence in Asian and American markets.

A win-win strategic partnership

For Italian producers, distribution through the Bordeaux wine trade provides instant global visibility and liquidity on the secondary market. For Bordeaux wine merchants, these great Italian wines allow them to diversify their offerings with top-tier wines, while also stimulating the market outside the traditional spring En Primeur campaign.

Each September thus confirms Bordeaux's status as the world capital of the trade of very fine wines, where Italy shines at the forefront of invited vineyards.
