    Description

The Spirit of Chevalier White 2022 is the second vin white of the prestigious Domaine of Chevalier (Grand Cru Classé de Graves), located in Léognan. Under the guidance of the Bernard family and with the advice of the winemaking team (notably Stéphane Derenoncourt for viticultural advice and the legacy of Denis Dubourdieu for the white wines), This wine directly benefits from the expertise and exceptional terroirs that have made the great white wine of domaine.

The 2022 vintage, marked by historic heat and drought in Bordeaux, required absolute technical mastery during the harvest of the white grapes (harvested very early, (from mid-August) in order to capture the acidity and avoid any heaviness. The Spirit of Chevalier Blanc 2022 fares remarkably well thanks to the protective forest island of domaine and the coolness of its cellars.

    Notes and pairings

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

Coat: Bright pale yellow with very luminous silvery-green highlights. Nose: Intense, precise and fresh. It opens with ripe citrus fruits (pink grapefruit, yellow lemon, citron zest), white peach and passion fruit, nuanced by notes of white flowers (acacia, linden), fresh almond, flint and a delicately toasted vanilla woodiness. On the palate: The attack is lively and crisp. The mid-palate surprises with its density and velvety texture (a contribution from the Sémillon and aging on the lees), but the wine never falters: a vibrant acidity cuts through the structure, lending it tone and balance. The finish is saline and persistent, underscored by a refined bitterness of citrus peel and a smoky mineral touch.

    Food & wine pairings

Fillet of turbot or roasted sea bass with lemon beurre blanc, scallop carpaccio with citrus, pan-fried langoustines, sweetbreads with morels, or mature goat cheeses (crottin de Chavignol).

    Vinification and aging

Harvest: Hand-harvested in the morning in small crates, by successive selections to pick each bunch at its optimal peak of acido-phenolic freshness.
Pressing: Gentle pneumatic pressing protected from air, with rigorous cold static settling.
Fermentation: Alcoholic fermentation directly in French oak barrels.
Aging: Aged for approximately 9 to 10 months on fine lees with regular stirring adapted to the vintage profile, in oak barrels (approximately 25 to 30% new oak). Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve a vibrant mineral tension.

    The team's opinion

The Spirit of Chevalier The 2022 Blanc combines the sun-drenched richness of its vintage with the signature saline and smoky backbone of Léognan. Designed to offer enjoyment more quickly than the Grand Vin, it nevertheless possesses the structure to age harmoniously for 5 to 8 years (2027–2032+).
