The Great Wine of Château Latour comes only from vieilles vignes,of average age around sixty years, from the Enclos. Gravettes, Sarmentier, Piece of the Château, ... These are some of the finest plots which each year express the typicity of a terroir and forge the identity of the wine. The heart of the Enclos is the only vineyard capable of producing, year after year, the depth, elegance, and concentration one expects from a great wine. It is here that Cabernet Sauvignon (comprising over 90% of the blend) fully expresses its color, richness, and freshness. These wines require time—often a decade—before they can be enjoyed.

Owner and history

First Grand Cru Classé from Bordeaux in 1855 domaine of Château Latour is located in the heart of the Médoc, in the famous Pauillac appellation. Château Latour enjoys a worldwide reputation. The 96.5 hectares of the property benefit from exceptional terroir and location, on the edge of the Gironde estuary. THE Château Latour belongs to the holding company Artémis Domaines, which comprises 9 properties worldwide. Under the direction of Frédéric Engerer and Hélène Genin in the cellar and vineyard, the domaine has managed to maintain its heritage while innovating in its winemaking practices. The team's approach is based on respect for the terroir and a constant pursuit of quality, making Latour an example of modern winemaking while remaining true to its roots.

Vinification and aging

The birth of our wines takes place amidst effervescence. The cellar team works daily, vat by vat, barrel by barrel, and through trial and error, based on tastings, sampling, and analysis. Respect for the fruit is paramount, and we do everything possible to treat it with the utmost care to create great wines. The winery underwent a complete renovation in 2001. It now comprises more than 80 stainless steel tanks of varying sizes (from 164 hl to 12 hl), allowing us to vinify grapes of similar profiles together and to conduct, with the greatest precision, all the necessary experiments to better understand the subtleties of our terroir. Château Latour was one of the first Bordeaux properties to adopt stainless steel tanks for winemaking in the 1960s.

Upon arrival at the winery, the harvested grapes are destemmed and crushed, then transferred to stainless steel fermentation tanks according to three criteria: grape variety, vine age, and historical context. A soil study of the vineyard and berry tastings are also considered, allowing for the creation of blends with complementary and harmonious qualities. In these temperature-controlled tanks, the young wine will remain for approximately three weeks, the time required to fully extract all the potential richness contained within the grapes.

After racking, during which the wine is separated from its pomace (essentially composed of the grape skins and seeds) and then transferred to clean tanks or barrels, a second fermentation—known as malolactic fermentation—takes place within the following month. This process softens the wine and gives it roundness and precision. The pomace is then pressed, and the press wine extracted is aged separately in barrels until the final blending.

Once malolactic fermentation is complete (between the end of November and January), the wine can then be transferred to barrels to begin its aging process. The crucial and exciting phase of blending tastings also begins at this time.

THE Château Latour 2019 is a liquid work of art. Born from a hot, dry vintage, it manages to capture phenomenal intensity while retaining the aristocratic "coolness" and surgical precision for which this Premier Cru is renowned. Grand Cru Classé. The 2019 vintage is distinguished by an almost mathematical balance between the ripeness of the fruit and the rigor of its structure.
